Poland’s Cheapest Points Hotels: Category 1 and 2 Stays in Real Cities

A genuine European city hotel sitting at the very bottom of an award chart is close to extinct. Poland still has several, and one of them books for 3,000 points a night in a UNESCO-listed city. The catch is that only one of those hotels is a Hyatt, and the Chase transfer ratio that funds it gets 25% worse on October 1, 2026.

Poland is unusual because two things overlap here that almost never overlap: cities people actually want to visit, and room rates low enough that the cheapest tiers of every major chart still apply. Below is every program that reaches the Category 1 and 2 price band in a real Polish city, the arithmetic behind each one, and the two deadlines that change the math this month.

What Category 1 and 2 Actually Cost Now

World of Hyatt is the only major program left publishing a real chart, and it rewrote that chart on May 20, 2026, replacing off-peak, standard and peak with five tiers: Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper and Top. Hyatt’s own announcement confirmed the structure, and 136 properties changed categories the same morning, 112 of them upward. Here is what the bottom two categories cost for a standard room, as of September 2026.

One number to be careful with. Several major sites were still quoting 5,000 points as the Category 1 “standard” rate in August and September 2026. That figure is from the chart Hyatt retired in May. Under the replacement there is no standard tier at all, and the equivalent middle rate is 6,000 at Moderate. Where two sources disagree on a Hyatt number this year, the older one is almost always pre-May, and the change itself is the story: the cheapest Category 1 nights got slightly cheaper while the top of the chart rose to 75,000.

Hyatt Place Kraków: The Only True Category 1 in the Country

Hyatt has exactly one hotel in Poland. The 216-room Hyatt Place Kraków opened in 2022 on Aleja 3 Maja, next to Błonia Park and three tram stops from the Old Town, and it sits at Category 1. It was not on the May 20 category-change list, and the award calendar has held.

Our four-night stay at 3,000 points a night priced against a $113 cash rate, which is 3.8 cents per point and roughly double what Hyatt points normally return. That is the worked example this whole roundup generalizes from, and it is worth understanding why it happens: Category 1 is mostly small-town American properties, so a real European city hotel landing there is an accident of local pricing rather than a program strategy.

Two dated mechanics decide how you fund it.

• Chase transfers: Sapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred and legacy Ink Plus and Corporate Flex accounts drop from 1:1 to 4:3 to World of Hyatt on October 1, 2026. • Buying points: Hyatt is selling points at a 20% discount from August 6 through October 5, 2026, minimum 3,000 points, which works out to 2.08 cents each. Three thousand purchased points is $62.40 against a $113 room, so buying outright still beats cash by about 45% on this specific property

The trap to avoid is the new Aeroplan route. Since July 15, 2026, Aeroplan members can redeem 25,000 Aeroplan points for a World of Hyatt Category 1–4 free night award. Spending 25,000 Aeroplan points on a room that costs 3,000 Hyatt points is one of the worst redemptions currently available anywhere, and the partnership announcement does not warn you about it.

Wyndham’s New 5,000-Point Floor and the Vienna House Map

Wyndham replaced its three fixed tiers with four on September 15, 2026: 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 and 45,000 points per bedroom per night. The entry price fell from 7,500 to 5,000, and independent tallies of the reshuffle found roughly 34% of properties got more expensive, 22% got cheaper and 44% did not move.

Poland matters here because Wyndham absorbed Vienna House, and Vienna House is dense across Polish cities. Vienna House Andel’s Cracow is a 159-room design hotel steps from Kraków Main Station and walking distance to the Market Square, which is a far better address than the Hyatt. At 15,000 points it prices like a Hyatt Category 2 night, and Wyndham’s tiers are fixed with no seasonal surge.

The honest caveat: Wyndham has not published a hotel-by-hotel tier list, and European Vienna House properties have been moving up rather than down, with Vienna House Easy Cracow already shifting from 7,500 to 15,000 before the chart change. Pull the property page before transferring anything, and compare it against the cash rate that week, because Kraków cash pricing is low enough that 15,000 points is frequently the worse side of the trade.

Accor: Poland’s Real Category 1, If You Can Get the Points

Accor is the largest operator in Poland and prices redemptions with a formula rather than a chart. Its published program terms state that 2,000 reward points give a 40 euro discount, with 1,000 points and 20 euros as the online minimum. That is a flat 2 euro cents per point with no blackout dates and no peak pricing.

Run that against Polish room rates and the result is literal Category 1 pricing. An 80 euro ibis or Mercure night in Kraków, Gdańsk or Wrocław costs 4,000 Accor points. A 120 euro Novotel night costs 6,000. You are not booking an award, you are applying points against a bill in 2,000-point increments, which also means you can part-pay.

Acquisition is the problem for American readers. Amex and ALL Accor announced a global partnership on July 22, 2026 with Membership Rewards transfers and status matching, but it launched across 12 markets and the United States is not one of them. Your realistic routes remain Bilt at 3:2, which is the only ratio that reads well, plus Citi ThankYou and Capital One at 2:1. Accor points also lapse after a period of inactivity, and transferred points do not count toward elite qualification. Acquire against a booked trip, not as a stockpile.

Hilton and IHG: Cheap Cash Is the Enemy of the Redemption

Both programs abandoned charts years ago, and both have a floor around 5,000 points that occasionally shows up at focused-service properties in secondary European markets. Poland has plenty of candidates: three Hamptons around Gdańsk, two around Kraków, one at Oświęcim for Auschwitz visitors, plus Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo inventory in Kraków and Gdańsk.

The reason to be careful is the cash side. Checking Hilton’s own Poland location pages on September 24, 2026, Hampton by Hilton Krakow was listing from 240 złoty over the next 30 days, about $62 at 3.86 złoty to the dollar. Hampton by Hilton Gdansk Old Town was the outlier at 673 złoty, roughly $175, with the Oliwa and airport properties at 394 and 390 złoty.

Now the buy-points math, which is the test that matters at Hilton. The program is running a 100% bonus through September 25, 2026, capped at 300,000 purchased points and doubling to 600,000, for an effective 0.5 cents per point. At that price, a 20,000-point Hampton night costs $100 against a $62 cash rate, so you lose. The break-even at the Kraków Hampton is about 12,400 points, and at the Gdańsk Old Town property it is around 35,000. Purchased points also do not count toward elite qualification, and these offers are sometimes targeted, so confirm the bonus inside your own account. If no bonus is live when you read this, Hilton runs them several times a year and it is worth waiting.

IHG is the better of the two here for one structural reason: the fourth night is free on award stays for Platinum and Diamond members and IHG cardholders, which is a flat 25% discount on the four-night city breaks most people take in Kraków. IHG is also selling points with a 100% bonus through October 5, 2026. Price the nights first, then compare against rates for the same dates before you commit anything.

The Flight Is the Expensive Half

Four nights in Kraków for 12,000 Hyatt points is a rounding error next to the transatlantic ticket, which is the actual reason most people never take this trip.
